New Zealand's best hot cross bun for 2024 has been revealed.
The winner of this year's Great Hot Cross Bun competition is Auckland's Daily Bread, for the third year in a row.
Speaking to Breakfast this morning, Daily Bread bun maker Patrick Welzenbach said it's "such a great feeling".
"I believe it's the first time a bakery has won three times in a row... so I would say its a hat-trick."
Pastry manager Sid Bahri said the secret is that the buns are made with sourdough, which keeps them nice and fluffy.
"The spice mix we are using is a homemade blend which is a secret recipe. The fruits we used to soak hot cross buns are soaked in pineapple rum which is from the Bay of Islands, it gives a nice tropical flavour and a kick."
