1 Acne med mix-up: Woman has to delay starting family for three years
A woman who was issued the wrong acne medication by her pharmacist says the mistake has had a "huge effect" on her ability to start a family, according to a finding by the Health and Disability Commission.
A pharmacist has been found to have breached the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights for failing to check the correct medication was dispensed.
The woman was prescribed isotretinoin for her acne. However the pharmacist incorrectly put acitretin — which is a medication used to treat skin disorders such as psoriasis — in the box marked isotretinoin.
2 Number of births, deaths in 2023 released by Stats NZ
New Zealand saw its lowest annual natural increase in population in 80 years during 2023, according to new data from Stats NZ.
It said there were 19,071 more births than deaths last year, the lowest natural increase since 1943 — when there were 17,562 more births than deaths. The natural increase in 2022 was 20,313.

Ian Wilkinson, the sole survivor of an allegedly poisoned mushroom meal last year, has spoken publicly for the first time during a sermon to his church.
The pastor's wife, Heather, sister-in-law Gail Patterson, and her husband Don died after eating suspected death cap mushrooms at a family lunch gathering in July last year.
Wilkinson was discharged from the hospital on September 22 after weeks in an induced coma, fighting for his life.

Finance Minister Nicola Willis is backing Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's stance on the "fragile" economy, saying it's in a worse state than many thought.
In his first State of the Nation address as prime minister, Luxon said rebuilding the economy, restoring law and order, and delivering better schools and hospitals were key focuses.
He said his administration faced making some tough choices to get government spending under control and referred several times to welfare dependency.

Emma Stone was named best actress for playing the wild and spirited Bella Baxter in Poor Things, a steampunk-style visual extravaganza that won prizes for visual effects, production design, costume design, and makeup and hair.

Champion Australian showjumper Shane Rose has been stood down from competition after controversy erupted over his outfit choice at an equestrian event in Sydney last weekend.
The three-time Olympic medallist donned a mankini at one point during the fancy dress event at Wallaby Hill, the Guardian reports.
Pictures from the event show Rose riding his horse in the barely-there outfit, popularised by the film Borat.

The winner of this year's Great Hot Cross Bun competition is Auckland's Daily Bread, for the third year in a row.
