Police are considering charges after a woman allegedly brandished a kitchen knife at customers and staff at a café in Auckland's Papakura this morning.
Counties Manukau South area commander Inspector Joe Hunter said that police received a call from a concerned member of the public around 9.45am.
"Police were notified of a disorder in which a woman entered the premises and allegedly threatened customers and staff within the store.
"It appears the female has uplifted a kitchen knife and brandished it within the store, leaving a short time later and walking out onto Great South Rd."
Staff from the Papakura community team and the police public safety team were quickly on the scene and took the woman into custody without issue.
Hunter said that no one was injured and that police were working to provide support to people present at the time.
"We understand incidents like this can be very confronting for those present, however, there is no ongoing risk to the public.
"This incident received a swift response from police and we want to reassure the community that we take these types of events seriously."
