Stats: Williamson rips up record books with match-winning ton

Kane Williamson has become the fastest player to score 32 Test centuries.

Another match-winning century by Kane Williamson has led the Black Caps to victory over South Africa, and etched his name in the record books in the process. Here's a look at the records Williamson has notched up during his rich vein of form this summer:

Fastest to 32 Test centuries

Williamson has raced to 32 Test centuries in just 172 innings, becoming the fastest ever to reach that milestone.

He surpasses Australia's Steve Smith, who got to the mark in 174 innings. Fellow Aussie Ricky Ponting did it in 176 innings while India legend Sachin Tendulkar did so in 179.

Best batsman of the last decade

Since the beginning of 2014, no batsman in the world has put up the kind of numbers Williamson has.

In 69 Tests, Williamson has scored 6872 runs at an astounding average of 65.44, including 28 centuries.

Only Steve Smith is close, having scored 8664 runs at 62.78 in 91 Tests, including 30 centuries.

Equal most fourth innings centuries

His century in Hamilton was his fifth century while batting in the fourth innings, often the hardest time to bat in Test cricket when the pitch has deteriorated after several days of cricket.

He equals Pakistan's Younis Khan for the most centuries scored in the fourth innings.

Equal most fourth innings centuries in wins

It was also the fourth time Williamson has scored a century in a successful fourth innings run chase in Test cricket.

This equals South Africa's Graeme Smith for the most all-time.

New Zealand has never lost a Test match when Williamson has scored a century in the fourth innings. The only time they have not won was a draw against South Africa in 2012.

Best home record since Bradman

Williamson has amassed an immense record on New Zealand shores throughout his career. In fact, among players who have batted at least 50 times at home, Williamson has the best home record in history, aside from the legendary Don Bradman.

In 47 Tests and 77 innings, Williamson has now scored 4666 runs at an average of 69.64, with 19 centuries and 18 half-centuries.

Trailing Williamson are the likes of Gary Sobers, Mohammad Yousuf, Steve Smith and Michael Clarke.

Most Test runs in 2024

Williamson now leads the list for the most Test runs in 2024, an impressive feat given he has only played two games.

He has scored 403 runs at an average of 134.33, including three centuries.

India's Yashasvi Jaiswal is second, with 359 runs, including a double ton against England last week.

It's unlikely Williamson will remain top of the ladder come the end of the year, given the lack of Tests New Zealand play, but he will have the chance to add to his record against Australia next month.
