A man has been arrested after a homeowner watched him on security camera allegedly break into his house with a sledgehammer.
Counties Manukau South Area Commander Inspector Joe Hunter said the Pukekohe resident was watching his home security cameras when he noticed a man breaking in using a sledgehammer around 2.30pm yesterday.
The homeowner contacted police immediately.
The accused allegedly took a number of items from the Paerata Road property.
He was then seen running through a number of properties and taking clothes off lines in a bid to change his appearance.
The 28-year-old was eventually caught following a foot chase and will appear in the Pukekohe District Court today charged with burglary and unlawful entry.
