Firefighters called to building and vegetation fire in Ashburton

Firefighters are tackling a large-scale building and vegetation fire in Ashburton this evening.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson told 1News crews were called to the blaze in Tinwald around 5.34pm.

Six fire trucks, one rural truck and four tankers are at the scene.

A shed, 100m of hedge line and a 500m x 500m paddock were ablaze, the spokesperson said.

Fire and Emergency resources were stretched to respond as crews from the region had been battling the Port Hills blaze in Christchurch for the third day.
