Traffic heavy in Auckland after crashes, more train disruptions

February 14, 2024

Aucklanders were warned to expect delays on their commute this morning after multiple crashes across the city's motorways.

The road problems compounded with ongoing disruptions to rail services, with many commuters forced instead into cars or onto buses.

On State Highway 1, a crash involving "multiple vehicles" blocked some northbound lanes at the beginning of the peak morning flow.

The crash occurred at 6.30am in the northbound lanes near Conifer Grove.

"The crash involved multiple vehicles. However, no serious injuries have been reported at this stage," a police spokesperson said.

Waka Kotahi NZTA said the right northbound lane was blocked while the crash scene was being cleaned up.

"Police advise motorists to expect delays while the scene is cleared and to take an alternate route where possible."

On SH16, another crash in the left eastbound lane has blocked a lane just before Lincoln Rd.

It has been a miserable week for Auckland commuters, with widespread train cancellations amid high temperatures in the city.

Auckland Transport again this morning warned patrons to expect delays and cancellations to most parts of the network due to "a KiwiRail track infrastructure issue" at the central Auckland Britomart Station.

Onehunga Line services were also cancelled between Newmarket and Penrose stations, due to the KiwiRail infrastructure issue near Britomart.

Traveller were warned to continue to expect delays across the network

Scheduled buses were accepting rail tickets and AT hop cards on all lines.
