They got on the flight expecting a trip from Amsterdam to Los Angeles. Six hours later, they were back in Amsterdam.

This week a KLM flight took off nearly 40 minutes later than expected for its intended 10 hour trip, which was interrupted shortly after things went awry, according to One Mile At A Time.

About 70 minutes after departing Amsterdam, the crew decided to return. However, the crew shortly after backtracked this decision to return, and the plane carried on its journey towards the US.

The plane, a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, kept going for about two more hours before the pilots once again decided to return to Amsterdam.

Six and a half hours after it left, KL601 was back where it started.

Passenger Felix Cervantes said all eight of the aircraft's bathrooms stopped working.

This meant around 200 passengers were left without a loo.

Cervantes said one bathroom began working again, prompting the crew to continue their journey towards the US.

However, they changed their mind a few hours later, marking the second decision to return back to Amsterdam.

"To KLM’s credit, there was a plane and crew waiting at [Amsterdam] when the plane landed. Plane arrived at LAX about 9pm local time on Feb. 12," Cervantes said.
