He’s been the voice of Love Island for almost a decade, but comedian Iain Stirling still can’t quite comprehend just how big the British television show has become.
“I’m blown away, really. When I accepted to be on a digital TV channel in the UK eight-nine years ago, I didn’t expect to be on New Zealand Breakfast television.”
In that time, things have changed dramatically for the 36-year-old Scotsman.
He now records his infamous voiceovers in a home studio in the hours leading up to the show’s 9pm airtime.

“I used to go out there [to Mallorca], a lot of fun was had.
“But my liver and kidneys couldn’t take it anymore. So I do it from my house now. I do a bit of Love Island and then I do the school run in the morning.
“It’s a weird dichotomy that I live in these days.”
Stirling tells Breakfast he was never a reality TV fan before working on the show.
But he revels in poking good-natured fun at the show contestants.

“I have a writing team working alongside me. My writing team’s name is Mark.
“And me and Mark have a lovely time. He’s in his 50s and he’s Scottish. So it’s very cynical, not particularly healthy, we both speak very fast ‘cause we’re from Scotland. We’ve got a lot to say and not much time to say it.”
