Police have charged a 20-year-old man as part of the investigation into a fatal crash on Muriwai Beach.

Police have charged a 20-year-old man as part of the investigation into a fatal crash on Muriwai Beach last month.

Nineteen-year-old Madison Marie Chamberlain died after the vehicle she was in rolled on the beach on January 21, 2024.

Two others sustained serious injuries in the incident, with calls to ban vehicles on the beach all together rising after the incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jason McIntosh said the man was expected to appear in the Waitākere District Court on February 23, where he would face a charge of dangerous driving causing death.

"Madison's death has had a profound impact for her family and loved ones, and the Serious Crash Unit has worked to investigate what led to the tragic event occurring," McIntosh said.

"As this matter is before the court, we are not able to comment further at this time".
