Former All Black Andrew Ellis is ditching the rugby jersey for hi-vis as the new host of TVNZ’s Moving Houses for the upcoming third season.
The popular relocation series, currently in production, sees Ellis’ passion for design, property and architecture flourish as he follows homeowners on their journey of moving and renovating across New Zealand.
He replaces Clarke Gayford, who hosted the first two seasons.
Ellis’ played 28-Tests for the All Blacks and won the Rugby World Cup in 2011. He also made 154 appearances for the Crusaders.
Off the field, Ellis is an award-winning landscape designer and has written a book on the subject, and he also has a passion for architecture and property development.
Speaking on his new gig, Ellis said he was “stoked” to be joining Moving Houses.
"I’ve really enjoyed watching the series and have marvelled at the skill and technical know-how of the drivers negotiating some of NZ’s most treacherous roads, while admiring the ambition and aspirations of the Kiwi homeowners embarking on these epic moves to create their dream homes.
“It’s going to be another wild ride and I can't wait."
Meanwhile, now former host Gayford said the show was “great to be part of” and he would miss meeting those Kiwis taking on "big dream projects".
“Who doesn't love massive trucks, outsized machinery matched at times with almost impassable roads,” Gayford said.
Gayford, who recently married former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, said he won't be on the latest season “because of other commitments”.
“It's now in great hands with Andy and no doubt he will stay awake through the night a lot better than I managed.”
Moving Houses season three is produced by Imagination Television Ltd. It is currently in production and will return to TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+ later in the year.
