Tom Abercrombie, one of the great servants of New Zealand basketball, is retiring.
1News can reveal that Abercrombie will announce his retirement from the sport at a press conference tomorrow.
He is expected to finish up whenever the Breakers' season concludes. They're currently in a fight to make the NBL playoffs, needing to win at least one of their last two games to secure a top-six spot. They play Brisbane in Auckland on Friday.
Abercrombie, 36, played in all four of the Breakers title-winning seasons and is the only player to have appeared in all six Championship Finals series for the club.
He was also Grand Finals MVP in 2011.
Abercrombie holds the record for the most Breakers appearances with 425, while he also has the most points for the club with 4434.
He made his debut for the Breakers in 2008.
Depending on results, Friday's game could be his last in Auckland.
Abercrombie made his Tall Blacks debut in 2006 and his last appearance came in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. He played 110 games for New Zealand.
