Person killed in Napier crash after car reportedly hits fence

One person has been killed in a Napier crash this morning, after the car involved reportedly collided with a fence.

Emergency services were called to the "serious single-vehicle crash" on Kennedy Road in the suburb of Marewa at about 6.55am.

"The road remains closed while a scene examination takes place. An investigation into the crash is underway," a police spokesperson said.

Diversions are in place on Kennedy Road at Douglas McLean Avenue and Nuffield Avenue. Police said earlier: "The vehicle is reported to have collided with a fence."

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternative route."
