Synthony in Auckland's Domain is set to be the country's biggest festival, according to its organisers.

Speaking to 1News, Synthony promoter David Higgins said nearly 35,000 people are expected at the event tomorrow night.

"We've become the biggest festival in the country in the space of ten months. We're number one which is great and I think that's a testament to how magical the Synthony live show is."

Higgins said a lot of younger festivalgoers are expected this year, in comparison to last, where most were aged in their 30s and 40s.

"I think the overall mix of Fat Freddy's Drop, John Butler, Synthony just clearly appeals."

"Synthony is an event where you could see a grandmother dancing with a smile on her face next to a 20-year-old kid, everyone's got a happy vibe," he said.

UK band Rudimental, who are headlining Synthony, said they're thrilled to be in Aotearoa.

The band are the first major international artists to play at Synthony, which they say is "amazing".

Vocalist Kesi Dryden said the band will play a mix of old and new music tomorrow.

"We're super excited to be back in Auckland, we've got some new songs to play, we've got some classics to play as well. It's nice to be here with a full band so we can't wait to get out there and be on stage."

The band's producer Piers Agget said: "Punters can expect all the sort of Rudimental classics, we're playing some new songs as well, dropping a new album this year so there'll be some of those flavours.

"There's about eight of us on stage, a lot of energy."

"It's amazing you know, I'm a big fan of Fat Freddie's Drop as well and I feel like it's an amazing line up and then to finish up with the Synthony, it's going to be an epic night."

Agget said the duo received the "most amazing welcome" at Auckland this morning, emphasising how hospitable Kiwis are.

He was also wearing a Huffer tee shirt during the interview this afternoon, a popular New Zealand clothing brand.

"The Huffer guys got us down to the shop and gave us some clobber and really looked after us.

"The hospitality here is top tier, that's why we love coming out here and we're just so excited to get out there and perform to a massive crowd."

'So freaking cool'

Festivalgoer and former Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) director Andy Higgs said: "It's just so freaking cool" to see that Auckland now has a home-grown music festival.

He said 10 years ago Auckland had a massive problem to solve, being a city without a world-class music festival.

Synthony has now "redefined the dance music festival genre", Higgs said.

Andy Higgs.

"Synthony in the Domain is the culmination of so many factors, an iconic vineyard in the domain with our much loved museum as backdrop, phenomenal production values, colourful performers, creative fan engagement, it's such an uplifting experience."

He described it as "a truly local and international flavoured festival" with the range and diversity of the acts.

"I can't wait for tomorrow, just like 35,000 others. Bring it on," Higgs said.
