As police investigate the violent death of a Wellington grandmother, attention has turned to a landfill in Porirua.
Helen Gregory, 79, was found dead at her Khandallah property on Baroda Street last month. She was a much-loved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother.
Police said today they now believed items were discarded by a person of interest in the hours after Gregory's death on January 24 and these were later dumped at the landfill.
They were looking for "particular items that could significantly advance the homicide investigation," Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said.

Attention would be focused on one particular area of the landfill.
"Tthe search today demonstrates the efforts the investigation team is going to as they continue to piece together the events leading up to and following Helen’s death," Leitch said.
"The investigation has uncovered significant evidence enabling the team to develop a clear understanding of the circumstances surrounding the death, and I am confident of a successful outcome."
Police previously said Gregory had "died as a result of a violent act".
