Aus police officer commandeers e-scooter to catch alleged thief

February 9, 2024

In what is believed to be the first time in Western Australia history, a police officer has commandeered an e-scooter to pursue an alleged thief.

Before the incident, a woman was at her Perth home when she reported a man allegedly going through her car before he approached the property.

The man then allegedly ran from the police.

Bodycam footage shows one officer on foot, before a second officer zoomed past on an e-scooter requisitioned from a member of the public.

"We believe this is the first instance in WA of an officer commandeering a civilian's e-scooter to arrest a suspect attempting to flee arrest," the Western Australia Police Force said.

A 40-year-old man was charged with one count of stealing and two counts of breach of bail.
