Police are no longer treating the death of Hamilton man John Wirihana Isaac last month as suspicious.
The 53-year-old's body was discovered at about 7pm on January 18 by members of the public who had taken their boat to the Waikato River in Ngāruawāhia.
A homicide investigation was launched on January 20.
Detective Inspector Darrell Harpur said that police are no longer treating Isaac's death as a homicide. He said following further inquiries, which included a post mortem examination, investigators do not believe Isaac's death is suspicious.
"Our thoughts are with Mr Isaac's friends and whānau during this difficult time.
"Police would like to acknowledge the significant public support shown following the death of Mr Isaac and to thank everyone who has come forward with information during the course of the investigation."
The matter is now before the coroner.
