Rachin Ravindra has opened up on an "amazing" highlight of his maiden Test century — a whopping 240 runs in the first innings against South Africa — and it wasn't one of his three sixes.
He joined Breakfast from Mount Maunganui this morning – and it's clear the left-handed batter is not getting ahead of himself, with plenty of cricket still to play.
Ravindra's haul alongside Kane Williamson's 30th Test century puts the Black Caps in the driving seat to win the match.
"It was obviously a great day for us yesterday," the 24-year-old rising star said.
"Not just individually for me but as a team and to have them sort of fall down in a pretty good position for us is pretty cool."
Celebrating the highest maiden Test century for New Zealand in the same match as Williamson's milestone made it even more special, Ravindra said: "Idolising Kane growing up and being able to share the crease with him is amazing.
"That man's got 30 Test hundreds in 90-odd Test matches, which to me is phenomenal. That's unfathomable sometimes.
"So being able to see the way he goes about his business, his processes and how dogged he is with his game plan, the way he's done it for the better part of 15 years is testament to his hard work and his resilience."
After the Black Caps' tally of 511, South Africa are at 80/4 ahead of play's resumption at 11am today.
Ravindra said he slept well on Sunday night after hitting the 100 mark.
"I think it probably would have been a different story if I was on 99," he joked. "I was just chilling."
And even after yesterday's record-breaking knock saw Ravindra drawing plaudits from around the globe, he's still just focused on the here and now: "I don't necessarily do it for that sort of individual accolade and all that sort of stuff, and stats.
"If I can just contribute to driving the team forward in that moment, hopefully it'll keep me in good stead.
"I try to keep it day-by-day, you know... Whatever happens will happen."
