One dead after single vehicle crash in Southland

One person has died after a single vehicle crash on the Wreys Bush-Mossburn Road in Southland.

The crash was reported shortly after 5pm yesterday.

The person was taken to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries, but died in hospital yesterday evening, police said.

"Police are providing support to the victim's family and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time," a statement from police said.

The year has begun with a tragic toll on New Zealand roads with 39 deaths already provisionally recorded.
