An early learning centre went into lockdown this morning after a group of men reportedly shot an air rifle nearby in Manurewa.
Police received a report of a group of males shooting "what appeared to be a rifle" at the rear of a Sturdee Road property just before 11am today.
Inspector Danny Meade said armed police cordoned off the area before approaching the property and a nearby early learning centre was put into lockdown "as a precaution".
"A high powered air rifle was located at the address and a 21-year-old male was arrested at the scene without incident," Meade said.
Meade warned people against using air guns in a built-up area, which prompted the use of police resources including an eagle helicopter.
Charges are being considered.
