Couple executed for throwing toddlers from window in China

A couple, found guilty of throwing two toddlers from a window after the woman claimed they were an obstacle to their relationship, have been executed in China.

The incident occurred on November 2, 2020, in the southwest Chongqing Municipality, Xinhua reports.

It happened after Zhang Bo, the father of the 1 and 2-year-old, started having an affair with Ye Chengchen. He did not tell the woman he was married at the time or that he was a father.

Zhang later divorced his wife, which was when Ye reportedly started to perceive the children as an obstacle to their relationship. This was despite Zhang having a custody agreement with his ex-wife.

The pair plotted to kill the two young children by throwing them from a window and staging it as an accidental fall.

To ensure the plan was carried out, Ye would resort to threatening Zhang as well as setting deadlines.

When Zhang's mother was away from their home, he carried out the sadistic plan — tossing the toddlers from his 15th-storey window.

In December 2021, Zhang and Ye were sentenced to death at the Supreme People's Court (SPC).

Court documents say the murder "seriously challenged legal and moral boundaries".

"Their criminal motives were extremely malicious, and the case had particularly heinous circumstances, cruel methods and severe consequences."

They were executed earlier today following a court ruling.
