Police name pair killed in fiery late-night Northland crash

Police have released the names of two people killed in a single-car crash near Whangārei last week.

The crash — on an Otaika Valley Road section of State Highway 15 near Otaika — was reported at about 12.20am on Wednesday.

Police said the vehicle involved went down a bank shortly after midnight "before hitting a tree and setting alight".

Marjorie Julia Cranstoun Mannion, aged 86, and Gerald De Vere Mannion, aged 64, died at the scene.
