A stolen car later found engulfed in flames in Palmerston North earlier this month has prompted police to call on the public for assistance.
Police said the vehicle, a blue Mazda 3 hatchback with the registration DHK199, was stolen from a Monrad St property at around midday on January 20.
At 8pm on January 22, the car was found on fire near the railway line, at the intersection of Longburn Rongotea Rd and Number One Line Longburn.
"The fire was so severe that surrounding grass and fences caught on fire, however FENZ (Fire and Emergency New Zealand) managed to extinguish the flames before the fire spread further," police said.
"Police need to hear from any members of the public who have seen the vehicle pictured between the 20th and 22nd [of January], especially around the area where it was set alight.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who saw persons or other vehicles leaving the area."
