Watch: Robbers flee brazen Mt Maunganui mall smash-and-grab

A fog cannon was set off at Mt Maunganui's Bayfair Shopping Centre this afternoon during a brazen daylight robbery.

Footage posted online showed masked men smashing jewellery cabinets at the mall's Michael Hill store while stunned shoppers looked on.

The fog cannon then activated sending the robbers scrambling away.

Police said they were called to the shopping mall around 3pm.

"The offenders left in a vehicle, which was located abandoned on Alverstoke Street around 3:10pm.

"Inquiries are ongoing to locate those involved.”

The same Micheal Hill store was targeted twice last year in separate robberies.
