Part of Akl motorway overbridge remains closed after crash

A crash on an overbridge above Auckland's Southern Motorway caused traffic to back up for several kilometres in both directions and delayed or cancelled train services this afternoon.

A police spokesperson said that emergency services responded to a single-vehicle crash on Market Rd at around 3pm.

"One person has been transported to hospital in a serious condition.

As of 8.15pm, Auckland Transport said most train services are now running to schedule, however people should "expect minor delays" and "possible cancellations" on the Southern Line as services recover from the previous disruptions.

"Scheduled buses are accepting train tickets and AT HOP Cards across the network."

An NZTA spokesperson said that the Market Rd northbound off-ramp had since reopened following the crash.

"Delay your journey or follow directions of emergency services in the area and expect delays," they said in an earlier statement.
