Australia’s Powerball soars to $150m

The starting salary is about NZ$10,000 higher, while the cost of living is dramatically lower.

Tonight one lucky player in Australia could be the winner of the country’s second biggest lottery prize in the country’s history.

Thursday’s draw has grown to an eye-watering $150m (NZ$161,363,250).

The country’s highest jackpot was won in 2022 when three people took away a share $160m (NZ$172,119,200).

Ahead of tonight’s draw, organisers revealed the numbers most frequently drawn. They include 17, 7, 11, 2, 3 and 9, while the least frequently drawn are 33, 15, 34, 31, 26 and 1.

The most commonly drawn Powerball numbers were 19 and 2, while the least were 14 and 16.

According to the Lotto, there was a one in 134,490,400 chance of taking home the $150m jackpot with up to half of all Australian adults expected to buy a ticket.

And no, you do not have to be Australian to cash in on the prize, Kiwis are eligible to buy a ticket so long as they have a permanent residential address in the country.
