The attorney for a Missouri man questioned by police when the bodies of his three friends were found outside his home has said his client had nothing to do with their deaths.
Kansas City police department (KCPD) reported a body was found on January 9 after a woman went searching for her fiancé and came across a body on the back porch of the home where the friends had gathered to watch a Chiefs football game.
Upon investigation, KCPD discovered two others deceased in the backyard of the home in Kansas City's Northland.
The three victims were identified as 38-year-old Ricky Johnson, 36-year-old Clayton McGeeney and 37-year-old David Harrington.
The man's attorney, John Picerno, today released a statement on behalf of his client in the hopes to "set the record straight".
In the statement, Picerno said the homeowner was close friends with the three men and had "nothing to do with their deaths".
"He does not know the timing or manner of their deaths, nor does he know how or when they exited his house," Picerno said.
Picerno added: "He had no knowledge that they remained in his backyard or that they needed medical attention".
KCPD earlier said there were no obvious signs of foul play observed at or near the crime scene, but the department has not released any further information on how the men died.
According to Picerno, the last time his client saw the three men was when they left the house and he went to bed.
Alan McGeeney, Clayton's cousin, told KCTV5 the family were shocked, confused, and beyond devastated.
"I'm not looking for anyone's head or anything, but my cousin was frozen to the dirt for two days," McGeeney said. "It's gotten a lot of attention from everyone having questions but not a lot of attention from anyone having any action; it just seems strange".
