Police responded to an "unexplained" death in Wellington region's Tawa, near Porirua, overnight.

Emergency services were called to the Tremewan St scene shortly before midnight.

"A scene guard has remained at the property overnight and CIB will carry out a scene examination at the property this morning.

"No further details are available at this time," a police spokesperson said this morning.
