Police have charged a man with murder after a fatal shooting in Rangitikei District over the weekend.

Police were called to the scene at Ohingaiti's Makohine Lane early yesterday morning.

A man had been shot and later died in Whanganui Hospital.

"A 37-year-old man is charged with murder and is due in Whanganui District Court today," a police spokesperson said this morning.

"Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the death, however inquiries into the exact circumstances of what happened are ongoing."
