Amelia Kerr hit an unbeaten 48 as her Wellington Blaze side thrashed the Canterbury Magicians by eight wickets in a Super Smash T20 match at the Basin Reserve today.
Replying to Canterbury’s 97 all out, the Blaze cruised to victory in the 14th over, skipper Kerr top-scoring for the match, with Georgia Plimmer alongside her on 18 not out off 14 balls.
Kerr struck seven boundaries during her innings. Openers Sophie Devine and Rebecca Burns (both 11), were the only wickets to fall during Wellington’s reply.
Only three Canterbury batters made it to double figures after the visitors won the toss and elected to bat; opener and skipper Frances Mackay hitting 31 off 41 balls and Madeline Penna and Jodie Dean both scoring 23.
Leigh Kasperek did the damage with the ball for the Blaze, dismissing the dangerous Mackay and Penna to finish with 3-20 off her four overs.
Devine was the most miserly bowler in taking 1-3 off two overs.
The result strengthened Wellington’s lead in the competition. They are now unbeaten in their last six matches.
