Fijian police seize a tonne of methamphetamine

Fijian police seized 1.1 tonnes of methamphetamine from an address in Nadi.

Fijian police have seized more than a tonne of methamphetamine in the second major drug bust in a week.

The drug was found in both crystal and powder form in more than 300 containers of varying sizes, some of them concealed in bags of kava.

Assistant commissioner Mesake Waqa said that an investigation into the seizure, announced today, is in its initial stages.

"The Fiji Police Force acknowledges the support of its stakeholders that had assisted in the raid."

More than three tonnes of the substance was found and seized on January 14.

A 37-year-old Nadi businessman is in police custody in relation to the drug seizure.
