Black Caps captain Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the remainder of the Pakistan T20 series after a scan confirmed he suffered a minor hamstring strain while batting in Sunday's game.

Williamson retired hurt while batting in the first innings at Seddon Park and did not return to the field for the remainder of the game.

His injury means Will Young will remain with the Black Caps squad for the fourth and fifth matches in Christchurch after joining the squad in Dunedin ahead of tomorrow's third game.

A timeline for Williamson's rehab and return to cricket is still being established, with a goal of being ready for the Test series against South Africa next month.
