Motorcyclist dead after crash in Murupara, Bay of Plenty

One person is dead after a crash involving a car and a motorcycle in an isolated Bay of Plenty town this morning.

Police were alerted to the incident at the intersection of Rimu Rd and Oregon Drive in Murupara at about 11am.

"Emergency services attended but sadly the motorcyclist died at the scene," a spokesperson said.

"The road remains closed while the serious crash unit conduct a scene examination, motorists are asked to avoid the area."
