1 Tenant awarded compensation after neighbour hid in ceiling cavity

An Auckland tenant told the Tenancy Tribunal he "didn't feel safe" in his home after reporting 25 incidents involving his neighbour, including finding someone hiding in the ceiling cavity of his unit.

Tenant Felino Turner told the tribunal his problems with the neighbours in unit 3 began shortly after moving into a property managed by Central West Property Management in April 2023.

2 Green MP Golriz Ghahraman returns to NZ amid shoplifting claims

Green Party MP Golriz Ghahraman has returned to New Zealand, having been accused of shoplifting while overseas.

Ghahraman had been away on a personal trip that had been planned months ago when allegations surfaced last week that she had shoplifted from Auckland clothing retailer Scotties Boutique before Christmas.

The party confirmed last week she had stood down from all of her portfolio responsibilities until the matter had been resolved.

3 Wet start to the week for parts of the North Island

The North Island's stretch of hot weather is set to be interrupted by rain this week, with an active front moving over the island.

It has prompted MetService to issue a handful of weather watches and warnings, including a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

4 More than 200kg of cocaine bricks wash up on NSW beaches

The mystery source of hundreds of kilos of cocaine is yet to be identified as bricks of the drug continue to wash up on NSW beaches and police scour the coastline for clues.

About 213kg of suspected cocaine has been recovered at locations spanning from the south coast to Newcastle since the days before Christmas.
