It appears New Zealand has not yet reached the peak of its fifth Covid-19 wave, according to the latest data.
More than 8000 new cases were reported over the past week, and daily infection numbers are now the highest in six months, with a rise seen after Christmas and the New Year.
As of midnight Sunday, there were 324 people in hospital with Covid-19.
Epidemiologist professor Arindam Basu said there was an expectation the number of cases would peak around Christmas time but it "hasn't happened that way".
"It is reasonable to expect we will see more cases for at least a week or so, before the numbers will come down."
