Wellington Firebirds' Troy Johnson pulled off a moment of magic in the field yesterday, combining with teammate Nick Kelly for what could already be a catch of the year contender.
Fielding at mid on, Johnson turned and chased a lofted Will Young drive, catching it as it came down over his shoulder. But with momentum set to take him over the boundary rope, Johnson launched his body in the air and simultaneously flicked the ball back into the field of play, straight into the hands of waiting teammate Kelly.
"That is unbelievable!" TVNZ commentator Scotty Stevenson exclaimed in shock.
"Troy Johnson has pulled off something quite remarkable here...this is incredible."
Despite the moment of brilliance, the Firebirds ended up losing to the Central Stags by six wickets, thanks to Jack Boyle's 57 and Doug Bracewell's unbeaten 11-ball 30.
