The Wellington Blaze have continued their hot start to the Super Smash season, beating the Auckland Hearts by five wickets in Auckland this afternoon.
Chasing just 94 for victory, the Blaze made hard work of it, only reaching the target in the penultimate over.
Jess McFadyen anchored the chase, scoring a 41-ball 39, before Georgia Plimmer and Kate Chandler got the Blaze over the line.
In the first innings, the Hearts were never able to get going as the Blaze bowlers quickly strangled them for runs. Jess Kerr was particularly impressive, opening up with two consecutive maidens before finishing with 1-9 off four overs. Xara Jetly too finished with the same figures thanks to some excellent wicket-to-wicket off spin, and even chipped in with a run out off her own bowling.
Maddy Green top scored with 36, although was never really able to get going as it took her 46 balls. Prue Catton chipped in with 20 while Bella Armstrong scored 14.
