Road toll: One dead after crash in Waimā, Far North

One person has died after a single-vehicle crash in Waimā in the Far North yesterday evening.

It brings the holiday road toll to 19. The Christmas/New Year holiday period started at 4pm on Friday, December 22 and ended at 6am today. Twenty-one people lost their lives on the roads during the holiday period in 2022/2023.

Police said the crash occurred at the intersection of Waimā Valley Rd and Puha Rd at about 6.20pm. The person died in hospital a short time later.

The serious crash unit is investigating.
