Watch: Black Caps batter struck in the head by own teammate

Black Caps batsman Tim Seifert was lucky to walk away unscathed after being the victim of friendly fire during the second T20 against Bangladesh this evening.

Seifert was at the non-striker's end when he was struck in the head by a booming straight drive from his batting partner Daryl Mitchell, felling the opener and causing some concern to the players and Bay Oval crowd.

While a short delay followed as Seifert was checked by the New Zealand team physio, the Northern Districts opener resumed his innings and was clearly not suffering from the blow as he struck a flurry of boundaries on his way to a 23-ball 43.

Tim Seifert was hit by a drive from Daryl Mitchell while at the non-striker's end.

His score was the game's highest when the game was abandoned after just 11 overs thanks to heavy rain with New Zealand 72/2.

Seifert admitted after the game his head was "a bit sore".

"I saw it straight off the bat then felt a big thud in the head. But everything’s good and hopefully nothing comes from it."

The teams will return to the same ground on Sunday for the third and final T20 in the series. The Black Caps will need to win in order to draw the series. Bangladesh meanwhile will be hoping to secure their first ever series win on New Zealand shores.
