1 Holiday road toll rises to 11
A single-vehicle crash on State Highway 69 this morning has seen the holiday death toll rise to 11.
Police have confirmed a person died after the crash in Inangahua, in the South Island.
Another person has died after a single-vehicle crash near Russell in Northland. The crash happened on Russell Whakapara Rd at around 11.40am this morning.
2 Woman rescued after falling 30m onto rocks on Waiheke Island
A woman was airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon after miraculously surviving a 30-metre fall onto rocks on Auckland's Waiheke Island.
The woman, in her 20s, had been exploring the coastline on Matiatia Bay when the incident took place, Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust said.
3 13-year-old girl missing from Auckland home for over two weeks
Police are seeking information from the public to help locate a 13-year-old girl who went missing from her Auckland home just over two weeks ago .
Tehui was was last seen by her family as she left her Mt Wellington home on December 13.
4 El Nino weather expected to draw more sharks, scientist says
El Nino is expected to bring out more sharks, and a scientist says there are steps we can take to ensure we do not encourage sharks to hang about near human activity in the water.
It comes after a teenager was killed in a shark attack on Thursday off South Australia's coast. It was the third fatal attack in South Australia this year.
5 Cyclone-battered Gisborne rolls out red carpet for Rhythm and Vines
Gisborne is already humming and ready to welcome festivalgoers heading to Rhythm and Vines, which kicks off today.
But travellers are warned to take extra care on East Coast roads, which are still delicate having suffered severe damage during Cyclone Gabrielle.
The festival is celebrating its 21st birthday, and up to 30,000 people are expected to attend over three days.
