One dead after Mount Maunganui crash, holiday road toll rises

One person has died following a crash in Mount Maunganui last night.

Police said they were called to the scene at the intersection of Aerodrome Rd and Hewletts Rd at around 10.17pm.

One person died at the scene, and another was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

Inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.

The death brings the holiday road toll to seven.

The official toll rose to six yesterday after a fatal crash in Canterbury. Two others were injured.
