The Wellington Blaze remain unbeaten in the Super Smash after yet another masterful performance from captain and White Ferns star Amelia Kerr led her side to a 20-run victory over the Otago Sparks.
Kerr scored her highest T20 score of 88, coming off just 57 balls, to see the Blaze post a strong total of 159/3 from their 20 overs. Coming to the crease with her side 7/1 off three overs, the Blaze captain took control of the innings, playing some wonderful shots all around Alexandra's Molyneux Park and putting the pressure back on the home side.
Stumped in the 18th over just 12 runs shy of her maiden T20 century, Kerr was replaced by her sister Jess, who smashed an important nine-ball 18 to wrap up the innings.
Sparks captain Suzie Bates anchored the run chase, scoring a 55-ball 70 before she too was stumped, essentially ending any chance of the Sparks chasing down the Blaze's total.
The Blaze continued to pick up wickets in the final overs, as the Sparks could only manage 139/7 from their 20 overs.
Xara Jetly was the pick of the Blaze bowlers, snaring 3-28 from her four overs. Leigh Kasperek was also miserly, taking 2-21 from four.
