Aucklanders hoping to go for a swim despite today’s cloudy weather are being asked to avoid a number of popular beaches across the city.

Due to sewage overflow and faecal matter, water quality website Safeswim has flagged a number of spots — with some completely off limits.

Hotspots Sentinel Road Beach, Judges Bay, Herne Bay and Home Bay are among the inner harbour beaches given black flags with locals urged to avoid swimming there.

Popular East Auckland spots, including Mission Bay, St Heliers and Okahu Bay have been given red flags, where swimming is not advised.

This is the same for several beaches on the North Shore, including Narrow Neck, Milford Beach, Long Bay and Mairangi Bay.

Aucklanders and Kiwis across the country are able to see which beaches are unsafe or unsafe to swim on the Safeswim website.
