Nelson airport was evacuated after receiving a "concerning" email at 8.30 this morning, Nelson Airport operations manager Jesse Woods said, however the airport has since been reopened.
"Nelson Airport customer service staff received an email about 8.30am with concerning contents. The terminal was evacuated as a precaution for approximately 15 minutes and police were informed and responded," Woods told 1News.
"We have consulted with police and the Civil Aviation Authority, and normal airport operations have resumed. We thank travellers for their patience and understanding for any disruption to their travel plans this event may have caused. However, their safety is always our first priority."
The New Zealand Herald reported that one traveller flying from Auckland to Nelson was delayed by 20 minutes, with a notice of the delay being shared across the Auckland Airport loudspeakers.
The traveller said no cause of delay was given.
The news comes one day after flights to and from Nelson were delayed due to adverse weather, affecting flights to and from Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
