A 36-year-old man has appeared in Christchurch District Court this afternoon on an assault charge in relation to the man's death.
He has been granted name suppression and remanded in custody until January 19.
Police continue to door-knock residents in Hei Hei, and locals can expect a heightened police presence in the area while investigations continue.
Earlier today, Reeves said a "number of other people" were assisting police.

Officers aren't looking for anyone else in connection with the death "at this stage".
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or other video footage from overnight that may assist.
