Charges have been filed against three individuals by the Serious Fraud Office after $3.5 million worth of Auckland construction contracts were allegedly awarded through bribery and corruption.
The trio ― including a former project manager and two associates ― face charges including corruption of an official, corrupt use of official information and obtaining by deception.
The first defendant is alleged to have abused their position as a public official while employed at Regional Facilities Auckland and later the Counties Manukau District Health Board.
The Serious Fraud Office alleges that they took advantage of official information to award contracts to companies they and the other defendants were associated with.
It is alleged that the three had personal relationships which they disguised and that the first defendant benefited personally, including receiving bribes.
Around $3.5m in public funds is alleged to have been granted to the two companies.
A hearing was held at Auckland District Court today with interim name suppression granted to the three defendants.
