A post-mortem has revealed that a man found dead in a West Auckland park on Monday died as a result of injuries sustained in an assault, police said today.

Security guard Ramandeep Singh was found at the Royal Reserve Park on Beauchamp Drive, Massey, in the early hours of the morning.

Police were called to the scene around 12.10am, where the 25-year-old was found "unresponsive". He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 26-year-old man was charged with Singh's murder on Monday.

Detective Inspector Aaron Proctor said today police believed there was more than one person present at the time of the "unnecessary and callous attack".

"We are appealing to those present to do the right thing and come forward."

Armourguard general manager New Zealand Shane O'Halloran confirmed Singh's death in a statement on Tuesday.

"We send our sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Ramandeep and are offering our full support to them during this difficult time."

Police are continuing to encourage anyone in Royal Reserve Park or the wider area, including in and around Reverie Place, on Sunday night to come forward.

Singh had been living in New Zealand since 2018 after moving here from India.

His family are in the process of repatriating his body back to India.
