A motorcyclist is fighting for their life after they collided with a truck on Auckland's Southwestern Motorway.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after the crash on the Cavendish Drive on-ramp, near Manukau, at about 3pm this afternoon.

Lanes near the scene of the crash remain closed as of 5pm. A traffic camera in the area showed officers and workers re-directing traffic.

"A truck and motorcycle have collided heading north on the on-ramp, and the motorcyclist has been seriously injured," a police spokesperson said.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition.

"Police would like any witnesses of the crash, or driving prior to the crash, or anyone with dash camera footage to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation."

NZTA Waka Kotahi has warned motorists should expect delays as a result of the crash.

"Due to a serious crash, the northbound Cavendish Drive on-ramp is closed, as well as the southbound service road between Puhinui Rd and Cavendish Drive.

"A detour for people heading north is available via Roscommon Rd, Noel Burnside Rd, Puhinui Rd, then joining SH20 northbound via the Puhinui Rd on-ramp.

"Vehicles who would have used the southbound service lanes between Puhinui Rd and Cavendish Dr can use the reverse of the northbound detour given above.

"Vehicles headed further south can still use the Puhinui Rd southbound on-ramp to join SH20 ― just the service lanes are closed to Cavendish Dr.

"NZTA thanks road users in advance for their patience," a spokesperson said.

People with information on the crash were urged to call 105.
