Canterbury signs Pakistan star Fatima Sana for Super Smash

Fatima Sana celebrates a wicket against the White Ferns.

Pakistan stand-in captain Fatima Sana will extend her stay in New Zealand for cricket after signing with the Canterbury Magicians for the Super Smash.

Canterbury Cricket announced Sana's signing this morning, adding she would be part of the team for the first six rounds.

The fast bowler joins after an impressive spell of white ball cricket for Pakistan against the White Ferns in recent weeks, helping her side to a T20 series win over New Zealand with two three-wicket bags in the first two matches before showing her skills with the bat in the second ODI with an unbeaten 90 at her new home, Hagley Oval.

Sana said the venture was a "fantastic opportunity" for her career.

"I am eager to contribute my best to the team's," Sana said.

"The Super Smash is known for its competitive nature, and I am looking forward to the challenges while learning from and sharing my experiences with my new teammates."

Canterbury Magicians head coach Rhys Morgan added he was excited to work with Sana.

"We are delighted to welcome Fatima to the Canterbury Magicians family. Her international experience and record make her a valuable addition to our squad. We believe her presence will not only enhance the team's performance but also contribute to the interest in this year's Super Smash."

Fans won't have to wait long to potentially see Sana in action with the Super Smash kicking off this afternoon with a men's and women's double-header between Auckland and Canterbury in the City of Sails.

The Aces and Kings will play first from 12.30pm before the Hears and Magicians take the stage at 4.30pm.
