Rotorua crash: Two killed, three others seriously injured on SH30

A car crash in Rotorua has killed two people and seriously injured three others, police say.

Emergency services were called to a crash on State Highway 30, near Owhata, at about 11.20am this morning, according to a police spokesperson this afternoon.

In an update tonight, they said: Police can confirm that a person has died in hospital, following today's crash on SH30, Owhata.

"This is the second fatality following this crash. Three people remain in hospital with serious injuries. Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing."

Police said earlier that the serious crash unit attended to the scene.

The road was closed earlier as a result of the crash.
